Six people killed in Iraq clashes
Baghdad - An exchange of fire between Iraqi police forces and unknown gunmen Saturday left five people dead, including a militia member, security sources told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa.
Another militia member was wounded, the source added. The shooting took place in the Mithaq area of Mosul, some 400 KM north of Baghdad.
In the north-east of Baquba city, a policeman was killed and three were wounded when a bomb exploded, a security source said.
The explosion took place in Saadiya district, 155 KM northeast of Baquba, the source told Voices of Iraq (VOI) news agency.
Baquba, the capital city of Diyala province, lies 57 km northeast of Baghdad.
Separately, a US serviceman died of injuries sustained in non-combat related incident in Diyala province. It is the first US fatality this month, the US army said on Saturday.
The death raises the number of US fatalities in 2009 to 17, and brings the number of US soldiers who have been killed in Iraq since the US-led invasion in March 2003 to
4,238. (dpa)
