Six Core Segments Surged 9.4% In Jan 2010
Key sectors of the financial system sprang up 9.4% during the last month (Jan '10) as compared to 6% in the previous month, official data said.
According to the facts issued by the commerce and industry ministry, electricity production surged 5.6% in January 2010, crude oil 9.7%, coal 6%, petroleum refinery products 3.8%, cement 12.4% and finished carbon steel 16.2%.
The six segments have a load of 26.7% in the index of industrial production (IIP), which assesses country's factory productivity.
The six core industries developed 2.2% during December 2008 and 3% in April-January 2008-09.
During April-January 2009-10, crude oil production dropped 0.1% whereas petroleum refinery production remained down 0.5%.
In contrast, coal grew 8.2%, electricity 6.1%, cement 11.2% and finished carbon steel by 4.9% in April-January 2009-10. (With Input from Agencies)
