Singapore raises concerns about spat between Thailand and Cambodia

Singapore raises concerns about spat between Thailand and CambodiaSingapore - Singapore on Friday raised concerns about the escalating diplomatic spat between Thailand and Cambodia, urging both nations to resolve their differences quickly to avoid damage to the Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN).

"Singapore is concerned about the deteriorating relationship between Thailand and Cambodia," said a spokesman for Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement, adding that "it is not good for ASEAN."

"We hope that both our friends will keep the larger interest of ASEAN in mind and find a way to resolve their differences quickly in a spirit of good neighbourliness," the spokesman said.

Thailand on Friday said it planned to review all bilateral pacts and projects with Cambodia, after the two countries had already recalled their ambassadors.

The diplomatic conflict started when Cambodia appointed fugitive former Thai premier Thaksin Shinawatra as an economic advisor.

Thaksin is regarded as an archenemy by the current Thai government. (dpa)
