Significant Changes witnessed over the time in breast cancer treatment

With passage of time, treatment of breast cancer has become advanced and more personalized, which as per experts is the reason behind saving millions of lives. Now, breast cancer treatment is no more one-size-fits all thing.

Experts have affirmed that changes can be seen in every aspect from testing methods, better drugs, to selective use of chemotherapy. Justin Stebbing, a professor in cancer medicine at Imperial College London, has agreed with the changes and improvement seen in the treatment of breast cancer.

These advancements, however, have not been able to change the stance of the disease, which continues to be the leading cancer death cause among women aged 20 to 59 years across the world. As per the World Health Organization, the disease takes lives of more than half a million lives.

Significant changes came from the 1980s. During that mastectomy was the treatment for all types of breast cancer, but such is not the case now, as today's approach is target the tumor, also known as lumpectomy.

Also, there are better drugs available now and doctors also have better understanding of disease that can be different in patients and accordingly therapies can be decided. Many studies have taken place question the role of chemotherapy in cancer treatment, which has brought in the use of many new therapies and drugs.

Breast cancer screenings have also helped as now most of the developed nations as for regular testing for women aged 50.
