Shiv Sena protests St.Valentine’s Day in New Delhi

Shiv SenaNew Delhi, Feb. 14: Activists of the Hindu fundamentalist political party Shiv Sena on Wednesday staged a token protest at Central Delhi’s Jantar Mantar against St. Valentine’s Day celebrations in the capital.

The activists said that they viewed celebrations of St. Valentine’s Day contrary to Indian ethos and a proof of the growing influence of western culture on rest of the world.

Besides, the protestors said that the St. Valentine’s Day was corrupting the Indian youth, as most of the youth on this day take advantage of the occasion and indulge in immoral acts on public places.

"Under the garb of celebrating Valentines' Day on February 14th, immoral activities are encouraged. We don’t accept such immoral celebrations which corrupt the youth and lead them to commit immoral acts. The youth are lured into celebrating it as a festival but actually it’s not a festival of love, but of destruction of values," said Sandeep Kukkarni, one of the protesting Shiv Sena activists. (ANI)
