Islamabad, Nov 30 : Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that achieving peace and stability in Afghanistan is in Islamabad's interests.

During his one-day visit to Kabul, Sharif reiterated that Islamabad wants friendly relations with Kabul based on mutual trust ' respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, Dawn News reports.

Nawaz's visit to Afghanistan is part of efforts to revive the peace process in the country before NATO troops withdraw in 2014.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai is still in the middle of a security agreement with Washington over extended stay of U. S. soldiers in the country post-2014.

Nawaz affirmed that the recent release of a senior Taliban leader, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, shows Pakistan's commitment towards the peace process.

He also said that an agreement had been reached with Karzai for a mechanism to allow members of an Afghan peace council to continue talks with Baradar, the report added. (ANI)
