Shares fall 2.1 per cent in Seoul

Shares fall 2.1 per cent in SeoulSeoul  - Shares fell more than 2 per cent Tuesday on the Seoul stock exchange, tracking losses in the United States as worries over a global recession weighed heavily upon the market. South Korea's won inched down against the dollar.

The benchmark Kospi index was down 23.73 points, or 2.1 per cent, to close at 1,128.73.

Declining issues outnumbered advancers 585 to 249.

The main index of the technology-heavy Kosdaq market decreased 6.43 points to 325.74.

On currency markets, the US dollar was quoted at 1,329.90 Korean won, after 1,326.30 won Monday. (dpa)
