Sensex Surges 126.03 Pts In Noon Trade
Indian bourses gained some ground in the noon trade, aided by sturdy earnings announced by corporates.
Information technology (IT) and telecommunication companies headed the gaining charts.
The 30-share index BSE Sensex, which belled the day at 18,983.2, remained up by 126.03 points to trade at 19,008.28 as against its last closure at 18,882.25.
In contrast, the 50-scrip S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange also remained in the green zone after surging 36.55 points (0.65%) to trade at 5,691.3.
But, the broader market indices were trading on a dull note, with the BSE midcap index trading 0.24 % higher and the BSE smallcap index ruling 0.34% up.
Real estate, power and energy scrips witnessed selling activity, whilst IT and telecom shares posted profits.
The overall market breadth remained optimistic as it witnessed 1,431 stocks advancements as against 1,133 declinations.
The top gainers on the Sensex comprised Tata Motors, Cipla, TCS and Wipro.
The major losers were Tata Power, Rel Infra, Jindal Steel and DLF.
The majority of Asian bourses were trading in the positive zone, except the Chinese bourses that continued to shed gains after the Chinese central banking institution's latest move to stiffen monetary plan cast a gloom on trading.
The Chinese Shanghai Composite index declined 0.44 % to 2,694.68, whereas Hong Kong's Hang Seng remained up by 0.75% at 24,339.27.
On the other hand, the Japanese Nikkei shut the shop on a flat note at 10,518.98.
