Sensex Plunges Below 17K Mark; TCS, Wipro, Infosys Down
Indian equities pared all its gains and fell into the negative zone as investors started booking profits in today's session.
The Sensex fell below 17K and continued to trade on a flat note. Consumer durables, metal, capital goods and PSU stocks showed resistance whereas IT and teck went down.
The BSE Midcap index surged 1.72% and the BSE Smallcap index was up by 1.30%.
Today, the 30-share index, BSE Sensex opened the day at 17,069.42, up 110.88 points.
At 1:05 p. m., Sensex stood at 16,941.73, down 16.81 points, after hitting a high of 17,120.56 and a low of 16,860.00. In the meantime, Nifty stood at 5,023.70, down 3.70 points. It touched a high of
5,077.00 and a low of 4,997.15.
Among sectoral indices, BSE Consumer Durables remained the top gainer with 4.31%, followed by Metal, which surged 2.82%, Capital Goods gained 1.60%, PSU climbed 1.51% and HC zoomed 1.41%.
BSE IT dropped 2.53%, TECk fell 1.96%, Auto lost 0.3% and FMCG was down by 0.06%.
The top gainers in the 30-share index included Sterlite Industries (India), which surged 5.36%, JP Asso increased 3.51%, BHEL climbed 2.85%, Hindalco zoomed 2.83%, Tata Steel gained
2.07% and HDFC Bank soared up by 1.45%.
On the other hand, the major losers in the Sensex pack were Maruti Suzuki India fell 3.51%, TCS declined 3.19%, Wipro dropped 3.09%, Infosys slipped 2.72%, Grasim Ind shed 2.27% and RCom decreased 1.64%.
