Sensex Loses 263.53 Pts; Metal, Realty, Power Stocks Tumble
The 30-share index, Sensex, continued to trade weak on disappointing Asian markets, which fell to three-month low on crude oil and credit crunch worries.
The BSE Sensex fell deep into the negative zone because of continued selling action seen in metal, realty and consumer goods.
Midcap and Smallcap declined over 3% each.
At 11:54 a.m., the BSE Sensex lost 263.53 points quoting at 14,307.76, while NSE Nifty stood at 4,263.35, down 84.2 points.
The overall market breadth is sharply negative. Out of the total 2,423 shares traded at the BSE, 286 advanced, 2090 turned down whereas 47 remained unchanged.
All the sectoral indices traded in negative except BSE IT which increased 0.25%.
The gainers at the BSE Sensex include, HDFC, Satyam and Infosys that gained over 1% each followed by Wipro, ONGC and ITC.
Laggards on the index were JP Associates which plummeted 7,62%, Hindalco and L&T dropped over 4% each. RIL, Reliance Infra, BHEL, Bharti Airtel, ACC, DLF and Maruti were among the other losers in the pack.
