Sensex Hits New Intra-Day High, Europe StrongThe 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) surged to its intra-day high in noon trade with oil and gas stocks topping the chart.

The Sensex, which belled the day at 17,577.66, was trading at 17,745, up 170.47 points (0.97%) as against its previous closure at 17,574.53.

At the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the broad-based Nifty was ruling 1.01% up at 5,322.35 from its previous close at 5,269.05.

The BSE midcap index was trading 0.94% higher and the BSE smallcap index 1.09% up.

Oil, consumer durables, power and realty stocks witnessed good buying action.

Asian markets closed dull with a negative bias.

The Japanese Nikkei closed 0.45% down at 9,693.94, whereas the South Korean Kospi ended the day at 1,732.03, 0.13% up.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng shut the shop at 20,726.68, up 0.17%. The Chinese Shanghai composite index also ended in the red at 2,535.28, down 0.69%.

European bourses started on a strong note, but gave up some of the gains on the back of profit booking amid unclear signals from the G20 meeting.

Leaders of the G20 countries left room for individual nations to maneuver their economic systems, leaving investors confused over what it would mean to the global economic revival process.

In Britain, the benchmark index, FTSE 100 was ruling 0.57% up at 5,075.02, whereas the French CAC 40 was up 0.87% at 3,550.38.

The German DAX was trading 0.88% higher at 6,123.85. (With Inputs from Agencies)
