After belling the day on a positive note at 16,805.22, up 63.92 points, Sensex continued to trade higher on the back of buying activity witnessed across frontliners.

FMCG, IT, auto and power counters attracted good buying support.

BSE Midcap index surged 0.75%, while and Smallcap index remained up by 1.05%.

The Sensex on Friday (Sep 18) closed the week after making a gain of 30.19 points, whereas the NSE Nifty gained 10.50 points (0.21%).

At 10:54 a. m., the 30-share index Sensex stood at 16,871.13, up 129.83 points, after hitting an intra-day high of 16,896.87 and an intra-day low of 16,763.78.

In the meantime, the broad based Nifty gained 38.60 points at 5,014.65. It touched a high of 5,019.70 and a low of 4,977.10.

The top gainers in the Sensex pack were Hero Honda Motors (3.37%), Maruti Suzuki India (2.04%), Tata Power Company (1.99%), Tata Motors (1.98%), Mahindra & Mahindra (1.84%), and Housing Development Finance Corporation (1.71%).

The major losers in the Sensex included Bharti Airtel (2.03%), Jaiprakash Associates (1.19%), Sterlite Industries (India) (1.18%), Hindalco Industries (0.58%), ACC (0.45%), and Reliance Communications (0.42%) were the major losers in the Sensex.

On worldwide front, Asian stocks gained after Citigroup lifted Samsung Electronics' price estimation and Morgan Stanley raised its ranking on firms, which make batteries for electric vehicles.

Japanese benchmark index Nikkei 225 declined 73.26 points at 10,370.54. Hong Kong's Hang Seng index gained 109.20 points to trade at 21,582. China's Shanghai Composite fell 1.59 points to 2,965.42 (11.05 a. m, IST).

While commenting on the stock market outlook for the week, stock market analyst Abhishek Jain of Stocksidea. com said that the support for the Sensex is at 16526/15975 and the resistance to the up move is at 16526/15975.

The Sensex is looking sideways for the coming days, Mr. Jain added.

For Nifty, the support is at 4924/4843 and the resistance to the resistance to the up move is at 5017/5164.
