Sensex Gains 96.56 Pts; L&T, RIL Surge
The Sensex gained some momemtum as European market belled the day on a mixed note. Continued buying activity was witnessed across index heavyweight.
Capital goods, oil & gas and metal stocks were the top gainers, whereas IT and consumer durable failed to remain in limelight.
At 02:03, the 30-share index Sensex gained 96.56 points to trade at 17,559.43. In the meantime, the Nifty surged 24.85 points at 5,258.20.
The overall breadth of the stock market was pessimistic with 1,433 advancements as against 1,344 declinations.
The top gainers were Larsen & Toubro, which gained 32.74 points accompanied by Reliance Ind surged 30.06 points, ONGC climbed 12.24 points, HDFC Bank zoomed 8.98 points and Tata Motors soared 6.64 points.
On the other hand, Infosys Technologies shed 7.33 points followed by HUL, which declined 6.65 points, SBI dropped 5.85 points, Hero Honda Motors Ltd dangled 4.14 points and BHEL remained down by 3.61 points.
The Capital Goods index stood at 14,375.13 after registering a gain of 165.76 points.
The Oil & Gas index gained 105.61 points to trade at 10,377.51. The Auto index was at 8,156.38, up by 45.55 points or by 0.56%.
In contrast, the IT index was down by 26.91 points at 5,339.84.
