Sensex Gains 83.55 Pts In Opening TradeThe 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Friday gained 83.55 points (0.48%) as against its previous close during opening trade.

The Sensex, which opened at 17,503.47, stood at 17,587.02, while the broad-based Nifty surged 0.43% at 5,276.85.

Broader market indices were also trading in the green zone with the BSE midcap index trading 1.2% up and the BSE smallcap index ruling 1.1% higher.

On Thursday, the Sensex ended 0.71% or 123.39 points up at 17,503.47. The Nifty index of National Stock Exchange (NSE) surged 38.70 to end the day at 5254.15 points.

Indian equities closed the last day of the April futures and options series on a high note.

The overall market breadth was strong as small and mid-cap scrips took part in the rally. The majority of Asian stocks dropped.

Interest rate sensitive banking, auto and realty scrips surged on new buying activity. (With Inputs from Agencies)
