Sensex Gains 109.21 Pts, IT Stocks Zoomst
The 30-share-index Sensex broadened its early gains and remained up 109 points, aided by buy-ins in IT scrips and heavyweight RIL, as investors turned bullish with the revival of the monsoon.
The Sensex, which belled the day at 17,402.68, stood at 17,550.65, up 109.21 points as compared to 17,441.44.
At the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the broad-based Nifty was ruling 0.64% up at 5,269.25 from its previous close at 5,235.9.
The BSE midcap index was trading 0.58% up and the BSE smallcap index 0.6% higher.
The meteorological department on Monday announced that the monsoon had revived and covered all parts of India.
IT, metals, telecom and banking stocks remained in limelight and all the 13 sectoral indices on the BSE were trading positively.
The overall breath of the market was positive as it witnessed 1,600 scrips advancements as against 1,140 stocks declinations.
Asian bourses were holding on to modest gains amidst worries of a slowdown in China and weak growth in the U. S.
The Japanese Nikkei was ruling 0.77 percent up at 9,338.04, whereas the South Korean Kospi closed 0.57% up at 1,684.94.
Hong Kong's Hang Seng was sluggish at 19,903.69, up 0.31%.
But, the Chinese Shanghai Composite index rose 1.92% at 2,409.42, helped by sharp gains in the recently battered banking stocks. (With Inputs from Agencies)
