Sensex Falls Below 17K Amid Negative Asian SignalsA benchmark index for Indian equities Wednesday lost 1.13% as against its last closure, a couple of hours into trade amid weak Asian signals.

Worldwide stock markets are said to move with cautiousness in the coming days, after reports that the economic systems of more European nations could find it hard to pay back their arrears.

The Sensex, which belled the day at 17,103.95 stood at 16,944.16, down 192.98 points, while the broader 50-share S&P CNX Nifty stood at 5,084.3 after losing 1.25% from its last closure at 5,148.5.

Broader market indices were also in the negative terrain with the BSE midcap index trading 1.28% down and the BSE smallcap index ruling 1.57% lower.

Metals, consumer durables, and real estate scrips were seeing huge selling pressure, whereas consumer durables stocks remained up.

Asian stock markets were trading in the red also, after worries arose that after Greece more European nations including Portugal, Spain were in not a situation to service their sovereign liabilities.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng lost 2.11% at 20,324.73 points, whilst the Chinese Shanghai Compositie index shed 0.31%at 2,826.38 points.
