Sensex Ends Flat On Profit BookingThe Sensex ended the week on a flat note after losing almost all intraday gains on Friday.

FMCG, healthcare and IT stocks remained the major gainers of the day, while oil & gas and capital goods witnessed heavy profit booking.

After belling the day with a small gain of 5.92 points at 16,795.66, the 30-share index continued to trade in the positive zone. Bourses recovered for the first time after four trading sessions on account of short covering. After trading on a positive note, the stock index fell into the pessimistic zone due to profit booking. But it returned into the green zone to end the day in positive.

The BSE Midcap index surged 1.03%, and the BSE Smallcap index was up by 0.34%.

Finally, the Sensex closed after registering a gain of 21.07 points at 16,810.81. It hit an intraday high of 17,006.77 and an intraday low of 16,765.20.

In contrast, the broad-based NSE Nifty gained 8.45 points at 4,997.05 after touching an intraday high of 5,054.95 and an intraday low of 4,983.25.

The top gainers in the Sensex pack included ITC, Infosys, Mah & Mah, HUL, HDFC Bank and Tata Power.

On the other hand, the major losers in the Sensex comprised JP Asso, RIL, L&T, Tata Motors, Grasim Ind and Rel Infra.

Among the sectoral indices, BSE FMCG surged 3.03%, HC gained 2.05%, IT climbed 2.04%, Bankex went up 1.31% and TECk zoomed 0.92%. On the other hand, BSE Oil & Gas slipped 2.71%, Capital Goods fell 1.44%, PSU declined 0.05% and Realty descended 0.03%.
 
Japanese benchmark index Nikkei 225 surged 15.82 points to end at 10,282.99. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index gained 379.21 points to end at 22,589.73. China’s Shanghai Composite climbed 56.44 points to close at 3,107.85.
