Sensex Ends flat; Nifty At New 52-Week High
The stock indexes closed the week on a positive note today (Sep 11). The stocks, which provided support to the jerky indices, included banks, information technology and capital goods.
The 30-share index BSE Sensex closed the day at 16274.32 after making a gain of 57.46 points. It touched an intra-day high of 16337.98 and an intra-day low of 16130.32.
On the other hand, the broad-based Nifty marked its closure after surging 15.70 points at 4835.10. The index hit an intra-day high of 4856.15 and low of 4791.75.
BSE Midcap and Smallcap lost 0.16 per cent and 0.40 per cent respectively.
Amongst the sectoral indices, BSE Bankex gained 1.61%, BSE IT Index surged 1.26% and BSE Capital Goods Index, which was by 0.55%.
BSE Realty Index declined 1.56% while BSE FMCG slipped 1.01%.
The overall breadth of the market was negative on the BSE as it saw 1084 progressions as against 1704 declinations.
The top gainers in the 30-share index were Hindalco, which jumped 6.03%, Ranbaxy surged 4.43%, SBI climbed 2.31%, ICICI Bank increased 1.98% and Wipro zoomed 1.96%.
The losers list comprised Jindal Steel, which fell 2.85%, BPCL dropped 2.81%, Sterlite Industries declined 2.68%, DLF dipped 2.65% and ACC sank 2.23%.
