Sensex Ends 238.15 Pts Down At 14,662.61

Indian equities, on Wednesday (Sep 10), marked their closure on a negative note on the Sensex Ends 183.23 Pts Down At 14,717.53back of discouraging worldwide signals.

Heavy selling action was seen across metal, oil & gas, power and realty stocks.

Midcap and smallcap stocks also contributed to negative reactions that pulled the stock index down.  

After opening with a loss of 183.23 points, at 14,717.53, the 30-share index, BSE Sensex traded weak for the whole day.

At last, the Sensex closed after losing 238.15 points at 14,662.61. It also touched an intra-day high of 14,866.32 and an intra-day low of 14,609.83.

In contrast, the broad-based NSE Nifty dropped 68.45 points at 4,400.25 after touching an intra-day high of 4,467.50 and an intra-day low of 4,382.35.

The overall breadth of the market was sharply negative. Out of the total 2,730 stocks traded at BSE, 932 progressed, 1,720 went down while 78 remained unchanged.

The major gainers in the 30-share index included Grasim Industries, ACC, Infosys Technologies, Ranbaxy Laboratories, State Bank Of India and ITC.

On the other hand, the major losers in the Sensex were Sterlite Industries (India), Tata Steel, Tata Power Company, Reliance Energy, Bharti Airtel and Reliance Industries.
