Sensex down 50 points to end at 17,878.14 points

Sensex1Benchmark BSE ended in the red during the last trading session of Tuesday. This happened because of the selling pressure that happened during this hour.

In all, Sensex was down 50 points to end at 17,878.14 following its European counterparts. This is 0.28 per cent lesser than its previous close of 17,928.42 points. In the morning it had opened at 17,918.43 points.

Earlier during the day it went in the green and gained 111.75 points and breached 18,000 mark.

Following the slowing trend, National Stock Exchange (NSE), the broader 50-share S&P CNX Nifty ended flat to close at 5,395.8 points. This is 0.17 per cent up from the previous close of 5,386.45 points.

On the sectoral front, reality and the metal scripts did well. On the other hand, the health care, auto and banking stocks were seeing heavy pressure.

The BSE midcap index was up 0.3 per cent and the BSE smallcap index was higher by 0.26 per cent.

Main gainers were DLF, up 2.01 percent at Rs.321.50; Sterlite Industries, up 1.53 percent at Rs.166.10; Wipro, up 0.93 percent at Rs.407.70; and L&T, up 0.53 percent at Rs.1, 902.20.
