Sensex Closes Week On A Flat Note
The 30-share index BSE Sensex closed the volatile session on a flat note on Thursday.
Buying was seen across Teck, IT and banking shares, whereas healthcare, auto and consumer durables remained under heavy pressure.
The index belled the day positively after gaining 59.36 points at 17,186.20 following subdued worldwide signals. Later, it lost its sheen amid volatility on account of passive indications from global markets prior to long week end. At last it marked its closure on a flat note, sustaining 17,000 mark.
The BSE Midcap index declined 0.35% while Smallcap index dropped 0.04%.
For the week ended September 19, Wholesale Price Index (WPI) inflation continued to move towards positive track for the third successive week to stand at 0.83 percent as compared to 0.37% during the previous week.
Among the sectoral indices, BSE Teck surged 1.45%, IT gained 0.88% and Bankex climbed 0.77%, whereas Healthcare dropped 1.30%, Auto slipped 0.92% and Consumer durables was down by 0.90%.
The Sensex closed the week at 17,134.55, up 7.71 points. It also hit an intraday high of 17,195.61 and an intraday low of 17,059.36. The broad-based NSE Nifty fell 0.55 points to shut the week at
5,083.40. It also touched an intraday high of 5,110.50 and an intraday low of 5,057.05.
The top gainers in the 30-share index included Bharti Airtel, which surged 4.01%, RCom gained 3.25%, ICICI Bank increased 2.17%, TCS rose 2.03%, Mah & Mah surged 1.14% and BHEL went up by 1.07%.
The losers' in the Sensex pack comprised Maruti Suzuki India, which declined 2.82%, HDFC fell 2.80%, Grasim Ind dropped 2.44%, Tata Power dipped 2.18%, Hero Honda lost and Tata Motors descended 1.90%.
Indian markets remain closed on Friday due to Gandhi Jayanti.
