Sensex Closes 123 Pts Down On Negative Global Cues
Indian equities on Friday closed the day after losing 123 points following selling pressure.
Worldwide markets also saw a pessimistic tendency.
The 30-share index Sensex, which belled the day at 17,981.06, closed at 17,868.29, down 123.71 points (0.69%) as against its last closure at 17,992.
The broad-based Nifty closed the day after declining 0.76% at 5,367.6 as compared to its last closure at 5,408.9.
The BSE midcap index ended 0.35% up and the BSE smallcap index closed 0.2% higher.
The top gainers on the Sensex included M&M, SBI, HDFC Bank and Tata Steel.
The major losers on the Sensex comprised Bharti Airtel, Hero Honda, DLF, and ICICI Bank.
Worries of an American recovery faltering, fuelled by a muted estimation by the US Federal Reserve, frightened other major Asian bourses.
The Japanese Nikkei shut the shop 1.64% down at 9,537.3, whereas the South Korean Kospi closed 0.65% lower at 1,759.33.
Hong Kong's Hang Seng remained weak by 0.3% at 21,029.81 and the Chinese Shanghai Composite index closed shop 0.4% down at 2,637.5.
European markets remained in the negative zone on worry about the US financial system. (With Inputs from Agencies)
