Security Beefed Up At IFFI After Mumbai Terror Strikes

Security Beefed Up At IFFI After Mumbai Terror Strikes The recent terror attacks in Mumbai cast its shadow on the ongoing International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2008 in Panaji.

The IFFI observed a moment of silence in the memory of those who died in the recent terror attacks in Mumbai.

“Wherever possible, I will personally go to the theatres to observe one-minute silence,” stated Festival Director S M Khan.

The state police have beefed up the security of hotels around the IFFI venue.

Speaking on this, Superintendent of Police (CID) Atmaram Deshpande said, “We have issued special instructions to our forces posted there. They have been asked to remain vigilant.”

“All hotels have been asked to set up metal barricades and policemen are now assisting the staffers in screening the guests,” added Deshpande.

However, the business of cinema remained as usual on the fifth day of the festival. Abhay Deol and Paresh Rawal's latest Hindi flick 'Oye Lucky, Lucky Oye' was premiered at the festival. The film saw a huge media presence. Entire cast and crew of the film also attended its premiere.

Due to the flight cancellations, veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah, who was supposed to be present to represent his film `Barah Aana’ directed by Raja Menon, could not make it to the event. Apart from Shah, famous Malayalam filmmaker Priyadarshan also failed to arrive as he was stranded in Mumbai. Priyadarshan’s Tamil film ‘Kancheevaram’ was scheduled to be premiered in the film festival.
