Samsung to spend $5 million on Noida manufacturing facility
Samsung Electronics, the Korea-based consumer electronics company, is planning to invest $5 million at its India manufacturing facility, by the end of current fiscal.
The proposed investment will be above the $24-million which the company has already spent at its Noida facility.
According to sources, the bulk of the investment will go into mobile moulds required for cellphones of different sizes.
It should be noted that the company manufactures about a million mobile phones per month at its Noida facility which are exported to South-east Asia, SAARC and West Asian countries.
Samsung Electronics is eyeing to tap the touch screen mobile segment that is growing significantly. The company has witnessed a substantial rise in demand for touchscreen and 3G mobile phones in Indian market, due to which it wants to extend its focus more on touch screen and 3G segments in coming months.
The company has launched 14 mobiles so far this year, out of which 5 are touchscreen and 3G phones. The company expects to release nearly two dozen models by this year.
In addition, market experts believe that the market for touchscreen mobiles, which stood at over 8 lakh in 2008 and is likely to grow to 12 lakh by the year end.
