According to reports, an unmanned Russian rocket will be launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan at 12:55 am ET Friday. It will blast off for a supply run to the International Space Station. According to NASA, the Progress supply ship will be carrying over 3 tons of fuel, food, water, oxygen and supplies.

It has been anticipated that it will dock with the space station on Sunday at 3:13 am ET. These kinds of missions could be launched on regular basis; however, three spacecraft that carried tons of supplies to the space station were lost since last October.

On Sunday also, a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket that was carrying a Dragon supply capsule exploded soon after its launch from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. The rocket was carrying a water filtration, spacesuit, crew provisions, equipment, food, water, student experiments in addition to the first International Docking Adapter.

The adapter was intended to be a portal to dock SpaceX and other commercial spaceships with the space station. On April 28, one more Russian rocket faced a problem following launch and burned up after re-entry in May.

Earlier in 2014, an Orbital Space Sciences Corporation Antares rocket, carrying crew experiments, provisions and equipment, was destroyed after a problem occurred after launch.

NASA's William Gerstenmaier said following the SpaceX explosion that this has come as a disappointment for them. Gerstenmaier, who is also associate administrator for human exploration and operations at NASA, said, "NASA lost a lot of important research equipment on this flight".
