Review Of ‘Ramchand Pakistani’
Acclaimed actress Nandita Das plays the protagonist in the sentiments arousing Ramchand Pakistani,a Mehreen Jabbar directed film, due to open on October 2nd. While the film is scheduled to mark the ending ceremony at AsianFilm Festival, New York, it was screened at the London Film Festival too.
This film is based on a real story. The story falls back upon the time when the period was seen as critical, with war looming between India and Pakistan. In the scorching summer of June 2002 a hindu dalit family finds itself in a situation where there is no escape. In what seems to be an accident, a man, a woman and their son finds themselves in a flux where they have crossed the India- Pakistan border and the unbearable consequences for the same follows.
‘Ramchand Pakistani’ is a saga of woes and struggle that the family undergoes. The son and the father are held as prisoners in India and the trauma they are forced to undergo leaves an adverse impact on the 8 year old child. The woman on the otherhand had been left stunned by the sudden disappearance of her husband and child, manages to live in solitude striving for her livelihood.
This Pakistan themed film is the second on the list after Naseeruddin Shah starred in Khuda Kay Liye (2008). While Ramchand Pakistani is being screened in Indian theatres on Gandhi Jayanti the same was released in Pakistan on August 1.
