Researchers find Earth-like planet

According to reports, an Earth-like planet, which is orbiting a sun-like star, has been found by researchers. As per researchers, life could be there on the newly discovered planet. According to Jon Jenkins from NASA's Ames Research Center in California, it seems to be the closest thing to our planet, where life may exist.

Jenkins said in a news conference that the Earth is now little less lonely for the reason that the new planet similar to it has been found. The discovery has been announced by researchers on the basis of observations from NASA's Kepler space telescope. This Earth-like planet is named as Kepler-452b.

This planet is extraordinary for the reason that it circles its star at nearly the same distance that Earth orbits the sun. In addition to that its home star appears to resemble our sun. According to Jenkins, it's the nearest thing to one more Earth-sun twin system.

According to him, Kepler-452b is an older and larger cousin to Earth and helps understand and know deeply regarding Earth's evolving environment.

He added, "It's awe-inspiring to consider that this planet has spent six billion years in the habitable zone of its star, longer than Earth. That's substantial opportunity for life to arise, should all the necessary ingredients and conditions for life exist on this planet".

It takes 385 days for planet 452b to orbit its star. It is just a little over the time taken by Earth for a one-year lap.
