Researchers discover new solar system
A solar system has been discovered by an international team of astronomers. The newly found solar system somewhat resembles our solar system. As per reports, this new solar system could have habitable planets. It was reported by researchers that they have found a planet similar to that of Jupiter and discovery of solar system is linked to it.
They said the recently discovered planet is orbiting around its sun-like star, HIP 11915. And similar to our Jupiter, the Jupiter-like planet may also play a role to protect other worlds discovered in the new solar system as a result of its gravitational pull. According to researchers, this is an important element, when it comes to formation of planets that support life.
As per reports, on basis of these observations, Earth’s solar system could be considered as a black sheep when it is compared to other solar systems that have been found until now.
According to Sci-News, an international team of researchers made use of the HARPS planet-hunting instrument on a telescope at European Southern Observatory’s La Silla Observatory in Chile to discover the planet.
According to Dr. Megan Bedell from the University of Chicago, lead author of the paper that has been published in the journal Astronomy and Astrophysics, “After two decades of hunting for exoplanets, we are finally beginning to see long-period gas giant planets similar to those in our own Solar System thanks to the long-term stability of planet hunting instruments like HARPS”.
Bedell added that their discovery is an exciting indication that there could be other solar systems out there that could be discovered in future.
