Researchers come to know what Rodents Dream about in their sleep

In an exciting study, researchers have come to know what rodents dream while they take rest. The study researchers from the University College London have discovered that the rodents think of tasty treats while dreaming.

The researchers were able to know the same by keeping four rats in a T-shaped pathway. Inside it, rats were able to see food but they were not able to have it. Rats like humans have neurons known as 'place cells' that are present in the hippocampus part of the brain.

These cells get activated when a subject is introduced to new location. They help to create mental roadmaps and memories of those locations. Electrodes implanted in the rats' brains helped the researchers to measure mental activity.

The researchers came to know that that rats' hippocampus was prepping a path. One of the study researchers stated, "What we don't know at the moment is what these neural simulations are actually for. . Something we'd like to do in the future is try to establish a link between this apparent planning and what the animals do next".

Study's co-author Dr Freyja Olafsdottir said that one of the most interesting things is to see hippocampus planning for the future. The study highlights about how rats think and store information. The findings can help researchers' netter understand human dreams and memories.?
