During the National Astronomy Meeting in Llandudno in Wales, a presentation was given by Prof. V.Zharkova, Northumbria University, which has unveiled that, the next mini Ice Age is expected in 2030-2040. The announcement has now raised many questions and suspicions.

Valentina Zarkova and her team had assessed the 11 years cycle of the sun and came to know that the solar cycle in 2030s will be in the form the way it was in the mid-17th century. As per the press release, “Solar activity will fall by 60 percent during the 2030s to conditions last seen during the ‘mini ice age’ that began in 1645”.

But it does not explain the complete process like what will be the implications for weather on earth. James Renwick, a professor at Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand, said that a decline in solar output by 1% is such a big thing for the climate system.

If 60% decrease will happen then it is the end of the world. James said that he is bit surprised about this point. He thinks that Zharkova and her co-authors have talked about the amplitude of the solar cycle, which can decline by 60% in that period.

James said that if things happen the way it has been described in the paper then there would be dip in temperatures for 20 to 30 years. But seeing the levels of CO2 and other greenhouse gases, temperatures would not drop much below.
