Repair, modernisation of Admiral Gorshkkov to cost 974 million dollars

GorshkovNew Delhi, Mar 12: Defence Minister A K Antony today informed the Rajya Sabha that the cost of repair and modernisation of the Admiral Gorshkkov, including providing logistic support, training and documentation, would be 974 million dollars.

Anthony said the contract and supplementary agreements for repair and re-equipping, logistics supports, shore infrastructure, training of ships' crew, repair and technical documents were signed with Russia on January 20, 2004. Its acquisition was slated for August 2008.

The existing contract with Russia is still valid. The process of examination of the scope and necessity for additional works projected by the Russian side has been initiated, he said.

He also said the Government has signed a letter of offer and acceptance with the US Government for the procurement of six C-130J-30 aircraft for the Indian Air Force.

The estimated value of the aircraft along with associated ground support equipment, ground handling equipment and the role equipment is 962,454,677 dollars. (ANI)
