Darjeeling witnesses rise in tourist influx

Darjeeling, Nov. 16 : Darjeeling, described to be the “Queen of Hills” in India, has always been a big attraction for tourists. This year too, the all inviting hill station is witnessing a good influx of domestic and international tourists.

There has been 15 per cent jump in the tourists’ inflow this year so far. But the tourism industry here is anticipating a further rise in the coming months, as it is just the beginning of tourist season here.

"Generally every year the numbers of tourists are increasing. This year also the number is increasing. We are getting a very good response. This year, there was a tremendous turnover of tourists especially in Darjeeling and Sikkim, " said Gopal Lama, Director of the State's tourism department.
