Washington, Oct 26 : A new study has revealed that ayurvedic drugs may be safer, and just as effective, as glucosamine and celecoxib in treating patients with knee osteoarthritis.

Osteoarthritis, or OA as it is commonly called, is the most common joint disease affecting middle-age and older people.

It is characterized by progressive damage to the joint cartilage, the slippery material at the end of long bones, and causes changes in the structures around the joint.

These changes can include fluid accumulation, bony overgrowth, and loosening and weakness of muscles and tendons, all of which may limit movement and cause pain and swelling.

US starts training Pak security forces to fight Taliban, al Qaeda

PakistanIslamabad, Oct 26 : US special forces have started training a Pakistani paramilitary unit how to fight the Taliban and al Qaeda, hoping to strengthen a key front-line force as violence surges on both sides of the Pak-Afghan border.

The start of the programme has not been officially announced, but Pakistan Army officers confirmed on Saturday that 32 Americans were training 116 senior personnel of the Frontier Corps in the restive region.

The officials said the course included classroom and field sessions, and the mission would last for around six months.

Deal on American presence in Iraq close to collapseLondon, Oct 26 : Senior Iraqi politicians have warned that a crucial deal between Baghdad and Washington governing the presence of American troops in the country is doomed to failure after eight months of talks.

“The Sofa [Status of Forces Agreement] is dead in the water,” said one Iraqi politician close to the talks, The Times reported.

He added that Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki believed that signing it would be “political suicide”.
