Abba four plan get-together for premier of Mamma Mia in Stockholm

Mamma MiaStockholm - The Swedish pop quartet Abba plan to get together after 25 years on Friday for the premier of the film Mamma Mia! in Stockholm.

But the four will be attending the screening of the Hollywood version of the Abba hit-musical starring Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan as members of the audience.

A spokeswoman for film distributer UIP told the Sweden's Aftonbladet newspaper that ex-Abba singer and songwriter Benny Andersson, 61, and Bjorn Ulvaeus, 63, wanted to appear alongside Singer Anni-Frid Reuss-Lyngstad, 62 and Agnetha Faltskog, 58 at the gala premier.

Swedish central bank boosts key rate one-quarter point

Stockholm - Sweden's central bank Thursday raised its key rate by one-quarter point to 4.5 per cent, citing inflationary pressures in the economy.

Swedish opposition urges caution in Lisbon Treaty vote

Stockholm  - Sweden's main opposition party said Wednesday the country was not in a hurry to ratify the Lisbon Treaty, following delays in the ratification process in Germany and Poland.

Sweden's ruling coalition hopes to put the treaty to a vote in parliament in the autumn, but Social Democrat foreign policy spokesman Urban Ahlin called for a more cautious approach.

Ahlin told SR radio said it was unclear how things would work out in Germany and Poland. He was referring to a case against the treaty before Germany's consitutional court and the refusal of Polish President Lech Kaczynski to sign the document, which is designed to streamline the 27-member EU.

Swedish FlagStockholm- Swedish jazz fans Monday continued to pay tribute to acclaimed pianist Esbjorn Svensson who died over the weekend in a scuba diving accident.

Svensson, 44, formed the Esbjorn Svensson Trio - known as EST - with Dan Berglund on base and drummer Magnus Ostrom in 1993.

The trio were lauded for blending other genres including rock and electronic music and improvisation, and won numerous awards.

"We are a rock band that plays jazz," Svensson once said.
