Wine festival in Pune

Pune, Dec 17 : Wine lovers from across the country recently thronged Pune to attend Wine Tasting Festival where more than 50 varieties of wine from 12 leading Indian wineries were on display.

The festival was hosted for the second time by the Pune Gourmet Club. Besides showcasing the different varieties of wine, the event also emphasized that the consumption of wine has positive effects on health.

"The whole idea of wine tasting and wine drinking with meals is a beverage and it is a luxury drink. It is something to do with lifestyle choice. It also has some positive effect for your health," said Paul Bailey, a winemaker.

Winemakers and wine trainers were also conduct a special class for the visitors.

Pune runs to pay homage to martyrs and victims of Mumbai attacks

Pune, Dec. 7 : Fifty thousand people including one hundred international long distance runners participated in an International Marathon in Pune to express their solidarity and pay homage to the martyrs and the victims of the Mumbai attacks.

Organised by the Pune International Marathon Trust (PIMT) under the aegis of the Athletic Federation of India (AFI), the event was flagged off by Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma.

"All of us have gathered here to pay homage to our brave soldiers, Police officers and civilians, who lost their lives in the Mumbai attack. We want to convey a message to the entire world that nobody can insult our national flag and hurt our nation''s pride," Sharma said in his inaugural speech.

According to Sujeet Patil, leader, Tata Motors Employees Union, it was likely that the commercial vehicles plant would go in for block closure for another three days towards the end of December.

`You could feel the heat of the fire,’ says woman who was trapped in Taj Hotel

Pune, Nov. 29 : A female television producer who was trapped inside Mumbai’s Taj Mahal Hotel on Wednesday night, has said that she could feel the heat of the fire in the lobby and the firefight between the terrorists and the National Security Guard commandos.

Speaking from the safety of her home in Pune, Vaibhava Rele told Fox News that she had gone to the hotel for a production meeting, and added that when gunfire broke out, there were about 25 people in the room.

“We did hear loads of gunfire through the night. There was fire, there was smoke, there was water from sprinklers all around. “You could feel the heat of the fire in the lobby of the hotel,” she told Fox over phone.

Tata Motors Ltd, India''s largest vehicle maker, is closing two of its commercial vehicle plants for six days later this month to avoid inventory build-up, a spokesman for the company said on Friday.

Its commercial vehicle plant in Pune, in the western state of Maharashtra, will be shut from Nov. 21-26, while its commercial vehicle plant in Lucknow will be shut from Nov. 10-15, he said.
