Another school building collapses in Haiti

Port-au-Prince, Haiti - Another school building partially collapsed Wednesday in Haiti, less than a week after a school crumbled leaving more than 90 people dead.

Eyewitnesses said a building adjoining the Grace Divine (Divine Grace) school in the Canape Vert neighbourhood of Haitian capital Port-au-Prince collapsed, falling onto the school itself.

According to preliminary reports, eight people - seven adults and one child - were injured and had to be taken to hospital.

On Friday, at least 93 people, most of them children, died in the collapse of Evangelical Promise school in Petionville, a suburb of Port-au-Prince. Some 160 others were injured and many more remained missing.

Haiti school collapse death toll rises to 90; owner arrested Port-au-Prince  - The number of children killed the collapse of a school in the Haitian capital Port-au-Prince rose to 90 late Sunday, rescuers said, as police arrested the school's owner.

There were still many victims buried under the rubble of the Evangelical Promise school in the city's Petion-Ville suburb, that collapsed Friday morning with up to 700 children inside, rescuers said.

Port-au-Prince  - As rescue workers continued to dig through the rubble, the number of dead early Sunday had reached 84 in the collapse of a Hatian school as special rescue teams from the US and France rushed to help dig out survivors from the rubble.

An estimated 200 more children and possibly teachers are believed to still be buried in the rubble of the Petion Ville suburb of the Haitian capital Port-au-Prince, Radio Metropole reported Saturday.

The school collapsed Friday morning as an estimated 700 students were in the building.

Rescue workers had contact with some of the victims in the rubble and were able to talk to and supply them with water.

School building collapses in Haiti, scores of casualties feared Port-au-Prince - A school building collapsed Friday near Haitian capital Port-au-Prince and several casualties were feared, Red Cross officials involved in rescue efforts said.

The children were in their classrooms at the time of the collapse in Petionville, just outside the capital, Michaele Gedeon, president of Haiti's Red Cross told CNN. "The whole school collapsed on the kids," she said.

The cause of the collapse was not known.
