Polish journalists released in South Ossetia

PolandWarsaw - A Polish television crew detained in the breakaway Georgian region of South Ossetia was released on Tuesday morning, the Polish Foreign Ministry said.

A reporter and cameraman from TVP, along with their Georgian driver, were stopped Monday by Ossetian police and later handed over to Russian soldiers. Their equipment - including their mobile phones - was also confiscated.

New details emerge in Polish village incest case

Warsaw - New details emerged on Tuesday in an incest case which has shocked Poland.

A 45-year-old man, who was arrested on Monday, has been charged with repeatedly raping his daughter over a period of six years, and with imprisoning her during that time.

Details of the charges emerged which appeared to temper the original reporting of the case after national media had labelled the man as the "Polish Josef Fritzl," referring to the Austrian incest case which came to light in April.

Media reports Monday had suggested the woman - identified only as Alice as her last name was withheld in accordance to Polish law - was held captive for six years until she reported the abuse last week.

Out of 813 people taking part in the survey, a quarter said Russia's return to power was "impossible," while 19 per cent said they didn't know because Russia was "unpredictable."

Missing Polish diver feared dead in eastern Indonesian sea

Jakarta - Search teams failed to find any sign of a Polish tourist who went missing eight days ago while scuba diving off the easternmost Indonesian province of Papua, local media reports said Sunday.

Kemal Abbas, chief of the Cenderawasih Bay National Park, said Robert Zsupuru, along with 10 other Polish tourists, left for the Auri Islands, near Matas Island off the Papua province August 27.

"On their third day, all of them went diving, but since then Robert has not been found," Kemal was quoted as saying by The Jakarta Post.

According to the search teams, Robert had most likely run out of oxygen while diving at a depth of greater than 80 meters, the newspaper reported.

Referring to a plan by a Russian-German consortium to build a 1,200-kilometre pipeline to supply the Europe Union (EU) with natural gas from Russia energy giant Gazprom, Tusk said Europe should not increase its dependence on Russia with this project.
