PM to attend Granth Sahib tercentenary celebrations

manmohan-singh14.jpgNanded (Maharashtra), Oct 30 : Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh will attend the main function of Guru-ta-Gaddi tercentenary celebrations here today.

Union Minister for Cultural Affairs Ambika Soni, Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and Deputy Chief Minister R. R. Patil will also present on the occasion.

The Prime Minister will also release a book ''Guru Maniyo''.

The occasion is being marked to celebrate the 300 years of declaration of Guru Granth Sahib, the holy book of Sikhs, as the perpetual Guru in 1708 by Guru Gobind Singh, the 10th master of Sikhs.

Sikhs celebrate tri-centennial of Guru Granth Sahib

Nanded (Maharashtra), Oct 29 : Sikh devotees began the celebrations to mark the tri-centennial of the holy book Guru Granth Sahib here.

Nearly one million Sikhs are expected to descend here for the three-week celebrations to mark three centuries of their religion.

Sikhs are streaming in on special trains, buses and flights also to mark the 300th anniversary of the death of Guru Gobind Singh, the last of the 10 gurus.

Across the country in Gurudwaras, Sikh places of worship, special prayers were being said and processions held for the Nanded celebrations.
