Kolkata, Mar 9: Over 500 children from slums here were treated to a special screening of the Oscar winning movie ''Slumdog Millionaire''.

Coming out of the theatre, the kids said the story of Jamal, an orphaned and poor kid, who eventually becomes a millionaire overnight after winning a television quiz show, inspired them that they too should not take slum life for granted.

"We really like the film because the boy who performs the role of a slum kid is just like us and stays in slum in real life too. We have learnt that we can also progress in life despite coming from a humble background," said Pooja Singh.

Kolkata/New Delhi, Mar 7 : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has blamed the Central Government for what they termed as a failure to check flow of illegal migrants from Bangladesh.

Addressing a election rally in Kolkata, BJP prime ministerial candidate L. K. Advani said, "Hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants enter West Bengal from Bangladesh and even the Supreme Court has said that what is happening in the eastern part is nothing less than external aggression and because this government abolished laws that deftly handle it, all this is getting encouraged."

Kolkata has just found a new Bahu . When earlier this week he landed in Kolkata for the shooting of Mani Ratnam’s film (tentatively titled Raavan) Abhishek Bachchan got the welcome of a prodigal son . Abhishek’s father is regarded as Bengal’s Jamai Babu , as Jaya Bachchan happens to be Bengali.

A few years ago when father and son Bachchan were shooting simultaneously in Kolkata the senior AB had said, “Earlier they cheered for me. Now they cheer for my son.”

Agarpara/Vedic village resort (WB), Mar 6: Bollywood actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is busy as a bee shooting for her upcoming movie ''Ravana'' at Agarpara, a suburb on outskirts of Kolkata.

The actress has been shooting for this movie here since February 17 while her husband Abhishek Bachchan too has joined the sets recently.

The shooting is expected to continue till mid-March.
