Yashwant, Munda injured in Ranchi police baton charge

Jharkhand MapRanchi, Feb 12, : Bharatiya Janata Party National Vice-President Yashwant Sinha and former Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda were injured on Thursday in a police baton charge on the activists trying to break open security ring around the Governor's residence here.

Twenty men and women were injured.

BJP activists from across the state marched from different routes to demand the dissolution of Jharkhand Assembly.

Sinha, who suffered an ear injury, was protected by his profusely bleeding guards.

Sinha claimed they were beaten up mercilessly.

Jharkhand MapRanchi, Feb 4 : The shutdown forced by Maoists to protest against the arrest of their two comrades today paralysed normal life in Jharkhand.

The 24-hour shutdown call given in six districts of the State has disrupted the highway and rail traffic.

Buses to and from Ranchi have been completely paralysed as passengers remained stranded on the bus stands.

"I am coming from Hazaribagh and going to Simdega. After arriving, I came to know of the shutdown. No vehicle is ready to go. We are facing problems," said Brij Kumar Pandey, a bus passenger.

Tilaiya project bagged by Reliance Power The Tilaiya ultra mega power project (UMPP) in Jharkhand has been acquired by Reliance by proposing to supply power at Rs 1.77 per unit, which is the lowest price quoted by the four companies in the fray.

The government owned NTPC was the one to come with the next bid for the Rs 16,000-18,000-crore project that assured to provide power from the pithead coal project at Rs 2.39 per unit.

Jindal Steel and Power and Sterlite Industries were other two bidders. The former offered to supply power at Rs 2.69 per unit whereas latter bid the highest at Rs 2.97 per unit.

"CPI (M) will field Rajendra Singh Munda and Jyotin Soren from Ranchi and Raj Mahal seats respectively and support other Left parties in their selected constituencies in Jharkhand, said Karat."

"Giridh, Chatra, Jamshedpur and Hazaribag are the other places where we will field our candidates," CPI General Secretary A. B. Bardhan said.
