BJP blames Congress policies for present crisis in J-KNew Delhi, Aug 19 : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday blamed the "partisan" and "short sighted" policies of the Congress for the present crisis in Jammu and Kashmir.

The BJP spokesperson, Ravi Shankar Prasad, told a news conference here, "The politics and policies of the Congress in Jammu and Kashmir have been partisan and lacking in foresight.”

“The Congress'' policies have weakened nationalist forces and boosted the morale of the separatist forces," Prasad added.

Jammu and Kashmir calm, curfew relaxedJammu/Srinagar, Aug 19 : The situation in Jammu region is improving on Tuesday and curfew was relaxed at the varying periods in Jammu, Samba, Udhampur and Kishtwar districts. Kashmir is calm following a coordination committee’s decision to suspend its strike for three days.

Curfew was relaxed in Jammu city from 5:00 a. m. to 8:00 p. m. whereas in Samba it was relaxed for nine hours. It was eased for 17 hours from 5:00 a. m. in Udhampur, while Kishtwar town has been given respite for three hours from 7:00 a. m.

PM Manmohan Singh urges all parties to work together for normalcy in J-K

Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan SinghNew Delhi, Aug 18: Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on Monday urged all political parties and right-thinking people to work together to bring the situation in Jammu and Kashmir under control.

Speaking to reporters here after the oath taking ceremony of two new Rajya Sabha members, C. Rangarajan and S M Krishna this morning, Dr. Singh said: "Everybody has an obligation to contribute. This is not a partisan issue."

Truck service between Jammu and Srinagar resumed

Truck service between Jammu and Srinagar resumedJammu, Aug 18 : With normalcy slowly returning to Jammu, the truck service between Jammu and Kashmir has been resumed.

The Jammu-Srinagar Highway, which was reportedly blocked by the protesters, has been re-opened and truck movement has started under the watchful eyes of the army.

The traders, however, negated the reports of an economic blockade in Srinagar.

Srinagar under tight security as Hurriyat leaders march to UN office

Srinagar, Aug 18: The civil lines area of Srinagar is under heavy security blanket in view of the proposed march by Hurriyat Conference’s Coordination Committee to the United Nations Military Observers Group office to present a memorandum over the alleged human rights violations in the Valley on Monday.

The security has been beefed up in all important installations around the area.

According to reports, the Hurriyat leaders will march to a spot near the UN office, then a small group will go inside as the Government has requested them to keep the crowds small, worrying that a large group could lead to fresh clashes with security forces.
