Srinagar, Oct 17: At least 20 people, including six policemen, were wounded in Srinagar, when police clashed with hundreds of separatist protesting against the Government on Friday.

The Jammu-Kashmir Coordination Committee, a new alliance of Muslim separatists and representatives of businessmen and lawyers, called for the protests after Friday prayers.

"I have collectively appealed to the Kashmiri''s that they should not sell their land either to the Government or to fellow Kashmiris for business purpose. Because if we do not want to be economically dependent then we have to create our own resources and land is important for that, " said Yasin Malik, separatist leader who led the march in the heart of Srinagar.

Srinagar, Oct. 17 : The Jammu and Kashmir Governor N. N. Vohra has given a call to revive the historical silk route for bilateral trade to usher in a new chapter of cordial relations between India, Pakistan and other nations in central Asia.

Governor Vohra was making the inaugural address at the 4-day International Conference ''Dynamics and Revival of Silk-route: Perspective, Challenges and Opportunities'' hosted at the campus Kashmir University on Tuesday (October 14).

Chakan Da Bagh (Jammu and Kashmir), Oct. 16 :A nine-member panel led by T. S. Raghavan, Joint Secretary in charge of the Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan desk in the External Affairs Ministry, reviewed the progress of the under-construction trade terminal at Chakan Da Bagh on the Line of Control (LoC) between India and Pakistan on Thursday.

Work is going on at a hectic pace to ready the trade terminal and immigration centre in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Election Commission, ostensibly, is a divided on the issue of holding polls in Jammu and Kashmir and has maintained silence on the issue. This seems to have piqued the political parties causing their outburst at the commission.

Considering the precarious political scenario in J-K, it is perceivable that the election commission cannot afford to be indecisive on this issue. Yet the issue remains unsolved.

Srinagar/Jammu, Oct 15: Politicians and residents have given mixed reactions to the Election Commission''s decision to buy more time to decide on the poll dates in Jammu and Kashmir.

Leaders of the state's National Conference party backed the decision.

"I think it is a right decision because Jammu and Kashmir is a sensitive state. Here, whenever elections are held it should be credible one. There is no doubt that the security situation is improving, but the Election Commission should ensure that there should be people participation as only when people participation is there we will consider elections as credible," said Raheem Rather, a senior leader of National Conference.

Srinagar, Oct. 14 : The recent turbulence in the Kashmir valley which saw curfews, Bandhs (closures) and agitations affecting normal life over Amarnath land row has affected traders specializing in wedding garments.

Many of the already scheduled weddings had been either cancelled or performed in an austere manner.
