Srinagar, Oct 29: The filing of nominations for the second phase of Jammu and Kashmir assembly polls began today with the issuance of notification.
Four seats in Rajouri and two in Ganderbal district will go to polls in this phase on November 23. The last date for filing nominations is November 5.
The nominations for the first phase in Jammu and Kashmir has started picking up with several political parties finalizing the names of their candidates.
Friday is the last date for the submission of papers for the first phase in which ten assembly constituencies in Bandipora, Leh, Kargil and Poonch districts will go to the polls on November 17.
Srinagar, Oct 28 : The Centre will send 452 para-military companies during the seven-phased elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Director General of Police (DGP) Kuldeep Khoda, "The Centre has given consent for the sanction of 452 additional para-military companies for security duties in connection with assembly elections in the state."
The para-military companies, which will be sent for election duties in the state, would be drawn from the Border Security Force (BSF), the Central Reserve Police Force
(CRPF), the Special Services Bureau (SSB), the Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and the Rapid Action Force (RAF).
Srinagar, India - Five suspected members of the Islamic militant Hizbul Mujahideen group were killed Monday by Indian Army soldiers in the northern state of Jammu and Kashmir, army sources said.
The soldiers launched a search operation in the Nawapitchi area of Kishtwar district, about 250 kilometres west of the state's winter capital, Jammu, after a tip-off, the sources said.
Five militants were killed in an exchange of fire, they added.
Srinagar, Oct 27 : Curfew has been lifted in Jammu and Kashmir''s Baramulla town this morning.
On Sunday, one university student was killed and eight others injured in police firing here in the wake of protests over alleged high-handedness of security forces.
The district administration clamped curfew in the area after the situation went out of control. The protesters were demanding the release of five detained persons by the police.
Kishtwar (J-K), Oct 27 : At least five Hizbul Mujahideen militants were shot dead in an encounter with army personnel in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir today.
