50 migrants suffocate in container in Pakistan Islamabad - Pakistani authorities on Saturday recovered at least 50 bodies and dozens of unconscious people from a shipping container in Pakistan's south-western province of Balochistan, according to police.

The container, which was found parked on the outskirts of the provincial capital Quetta, was carrying 110 people, apparently illegal immigrants being transported from Afghanistan to Iran via Pakistan.

According to sources, a suicide bomber tried to crash his explosive-laden vehicle into the Pakistan Army convoy which was on its way to Miranshah from Bannu.

A Frontier Corps (FC) gunman, in an effort to prevent the military convoy from being attacked, opened fire on the attacker's vehicle, subsequently blowing it away.

"What is happening in Swat amounts to a blatant abuse of the rights of our people by non-state actors. The state cannot and must not remain silent at this heinous act of brutal violence against women," the Daily Times quoted, Rehman, as saying.

Teenage girl’s flogging did not occur in Swat: TalibanIslamabad, Apr. 4 : The Taliban has denied that the flogging of a 17-year-girl took place in the Swat Valley.

"The act is in accordance with shariah, but the flogging did not happen in Swat," The News quoted Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) spokesperson Muslim Khan, as saying.

Khan said the punishment was according to what is described in the shariah.

Chaudhry has asked the federal interior secretary, the NWFP chief secretary and the NWFP inspector general of police to appear before the court on Monday.
