Pak should not isolate itself while responding to terrorists: DTIslamabad, Dec 15 : It is very important for Pakistan not to isolate itself while responding to the challenges produced by terrorists doing mischief abroad from its soil, a leading Islamabad based daily has said.

The world knows that Central Asian rulers are all despots, but it is developing tolerance for them because of their resistance to the Taliban and Al Qaeda, the Daily Times has said in its lead editorial.

Rebels kill anti-Taliban militia chief, eight others in Pakistan Islamabad  - Islamist militants killed an anti-Taliban militia chief and eight of his supporters at the weekend in Pakistan's restive Swat district, according to a media report on Monday.

Pir Samiullah, an influential elder leading a militia against pro-Taliban militants in Swat, was gunned down by insurgents loyal to radical cleric Maulana Fazlullah in Mandaldag area late Saturday, the Dawn newspaper said.

Jamaat-e-Islami moves Pak Senate on Jamaat-ud-Daawa ban

Islamabad, Dec. 14 : Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) senators on Saturday filed an adjournment motion in the Pakistani Senate against the government''s decision to ban the Jamaat-ud-Daawa (JuD).

"After its diplomatic failure at the UN, the government of Pakistan has also opted to ban this one of the most committed and highly-professional charity organisation," The News quoted JI senators as saying in their adjournment motion filed at the Senate Secretariat.

They said that after the ex-parte proceedings against Pakistan, the UN Security Council had banned certain charity organisations of Pakistan, including the Jamaat-ud-Daawa.

Pak Air Force says it turned back Indian jets flying over Kashmir, Lahore

Islamabad/Lahore, Dec. 14 : A Pakistan Air Force (PAF) spokesman said on Saturday that Indian Air Force jets had violated Pakistani airspace in the Kashmir and Lahore sectors, but were turned back soon after crossing the airspace over the border separating the two countries.

In the wake of the incident, an emergency was declared at the Shorkot and Sarghoda airbases on Sunday.

Pakistan Air Force spokesman Air Commodore Himayun Viqar said two Indian aircraft crossed into Pakistan administered Kashmir and into Lahore, but refused to reveal the exact time of the alleged intrusion.

Pakistan''s Information and Broadcasting Minister Sherry Rehman, however, played down the incident, saying that the incursion was ''inadvertent''.

Brown to visit India, Pakistan to ease tension in South Asia

Gordon BrownNew Delhi/Islamabad - British Prime Minister Gordon Brown will make an unscheduled visit to India and Pakistan as ties between the nuclear-armed neighbours came under severe strain following the terrorist attacks in Mumbai, officials said Saturday.

Brown will hold talks Sunday with his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh, during which New Delhi is expected to share evidence about the alleged involvement of Pakistan-based militants in the attacks.

"British Premier Brown will arrive Saturday night and will have his main meeting with Prime Minister Singh on Sunday morning," an official in India's External Affairs Ministry said.

Pakistani militants torch NATO supply trucks

Pakistan MapIslamabad - Pro-Taliban militants in north-west Pakistan torched around a dozen trucks carrying supplies to US and NATO forces in Afghanistan Saturday, police said.

A group of masked gunmen targeted the Bilal terminal on the outskirts of Peshawar in the early hours and targeted two dozen parked trucks with rocket-propelled grenades and assault rifles, police officer Fida Ahmad said.

He said 11 lorries loaded with supplies were destroyed.
