‘Suhkrunye’ celebrations in Nagaland

Nagaland MapKohima, Feb. 10: The spectacular festival Nagaland, `Suhkrunye' is being celebrated with great splendor and gaiety in Phusachodumi village of Phek District.

The fortnight long festival is eminent for the Chakhesang tribe of Nagaland, who celebrate it to sanctify young boys and girls and also to seek blessings for a bountiful and prosperous year ahead.

People of the Phusachodumi village attribute their community bondage and traditional culture to such festivals.

Zero tolerance to combat terrorism and naxalism: Chidambaram

P ChindambaramMumbai, Feb. 10 : Union Home Minister P Chidambaram said the government has a zero tolerance policy to fight terrorism and naxal threat.

In a high-level security review meeting with Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, other top functionaries, Chidambaram said that New Delhi had given a dossier to Islamabad on the Mumbai terror attacks and was awaiting a response.

He rubbished the Pakistani stand that there was Bangladeshi involvement in the 26/11 terror attacks in Mumbai.

Oscar Fernandes says Amendments in Factories Acts, 1948 in final stage

Oscar FernandesFaridabad, Feb. 10: Minister of State for Labour and Employment Oscar Fernandes on Monday said the Government is seriously contemplating comprehensive amendments in the Factories Act, 1948 that would require the concerned agencies to come together periodically and deliberate upon the matters of Occupational Safety and Health.

While inaugurating the Regional Labour Institute at Faridabad in Haryana, Fernandes said the National Policy on Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) has been approved by the Government, and is in its final stage.

Jammu Kashmir state employees on a two-day strike

Ignoring state Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather''s appeal not to strike as the Government has agreed in principal to implement the pay penal recommendations, employees of all government offices and public sector undertakings remained shut on Tuesday across Jammu and Kashmir.

SC pulls up CBI on Mulayam’s disproportionate assets case

CBI LogoNew Delhi, Feb. 10, : The Supreme Court on Tuesday criticized the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for acting on the behest of the Central Government in the disproportionate assets case against former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Justice Altmas Kabir and Justice Cyriac Joseph, condemned the CBI for approaching the Central Government for advice on the matter, saying: "Since when has the CBI started taking advice from the Government? Why didn''t you come to the court for clarifications?"

India-Netherlands bilateral trade pegged at 7.2 bln dollars in 2007-08

3.9 billion dollars in 2006-07 to US 7.2 billion dollars in 2007-08.

During his interaction with Dutch Minister for Foreign Trade Franck Heemskerk, Nath said the Netherlands is amongst India''s top trading partners and the two way trade has shown a healthy increase.
