Bank credit up 25.4%, deposits rise 22%

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said on Thursday that the flow of credit from scheduled commercial banks has increased between April and June 20 this year. The credit flow has increased by 25.4% during this period. The growth is slower than the corresponding period of last year.

The rise in credit is due to high demand from public sector oil firms. The oil firms are under-recovery due to subsidy on oil products. They are forced to sell petroleum products at the rate below the prevailing global rates.

Curfew continues in Indore

Indore, July 5: Curfew continues in all the 27 police station areas of Indore, after it was imposed yesterday following violence that broke out over revocation of land transfer to Amarnath Shrine Board in Jammu.

However, there have been no reports of any untoward incidents since last evening.

Additional police forces have been deployed in sensitive areas to maintain law and order situation.

Four people, including two Muslim, were killed when Hindu groups clashed with them, forcing police to open fire and lob tear gas shells. According to an eyewitness, at least five people were injured after receiving bullets shots.

J-K police kills JeM militant in Pulwama

Jammu & KashmirSrinagar July 4 : In a joint operation by Pulwama Police and 182 Batallion Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has eliminated a militant of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) in Pulwama district.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Pulwama, Ali Mohammad, police on specific information launched an operation in an area between village Barpora and Wagahama in Pulwama.

Police was later on joined by 182 Battalion of CRPF.

US Congressman Gary Ackerman meets PM

New Delhi, July 4 : US Congressman Gary Ackerman met Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh here today in the backdrop of the Bush administration support to the Indo-US civil nuclear deal.

Ackerman, who is also the chairman of the House of Representatives panel on west and south Asia, was accompanied by five other delegates at the meeting. 

Ackerman had earlier expressed his doubts over getting the approval of the US Congress for the 123 Agreement, the final step towards operationalising the nuclear deal before the end of the term of George W Bush's administration.
