The news is finally out. The 3G iPhone would be sold in India by Vodafone and the 8GB model of the handset would cost Rs 31,000 ($712), while the 16GB model will cost Rs 36,100 ($828).

The costs are pretty high as India till now does not even have 3G services. However, it is being said the services would be available by next year.

Jammu, August 21 : Irate demonstrators burnt vehicles in Jammu on Thursday protesting over controversial shrine land row.

A group of angry protesters went on a rampage damaging the vehicle of a senior leader belonging to central ruling Congress party and former Deputy Chief Minister of State Mangat Ram Sharma, who was visiting the area.

The protestors also set on fire four private vehicles parked in a by-lane.

Sharma, whose car was badly damaged, urged the people to maintain peace and harmony and try and strengthen relations between Kashmir and Jammu regions.

Jammu, Aug 21 : Day curfew was withdrawn, today in districts of Jammu, Udhampur and relaxed for varying periods in areas of Jammu province, affected with protests over the Amarnath land row. Curfew has been lifted from 5 am to 8 pm in Jammu and from 5a. m to 10p. m in Udhampur district today, said official sources.

A three-hour curfew relaxation from 9:30 am has been given by authorities in Kishtwar town, which witnessed communal clashes on August 12.

A relaxation in curfew has also been given for 11 hours from 5 am, in Samba town.

India will soon enter into the unmanned moon mission. The country would launch Chandrayaan-I by the end of this year.

It was disclosed by space scientist and former ISRO chairman Krishnaswamy Kasturirangan in a book release function.

Seven countries such as Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan, South Korea, France and Britain have already launched their Moon mission.

Srinagar, Kashmir  - Indian troops posted along the Line of Control, which divides the disputed Kashmir region between India and Pakistan, were shelled from across the border Thursday, officials said.

Six mortar shells were fired on Indian forward positions in the Jahangarh area of the Nowshera sector, 80 kilometres north-west of the state's winter capital, Jammu. There were no injuries.

"The firing went on intermittently for 45 minutes from 6:40 am local time [0110 GMT]," Lieutenant Colonel SD Goswami told reporters. "The Indian Army exercised restraint and did not retaliate."

Vienna, Aug 21 : The crucial two-day meeting of the 45-nation Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) begins here today to decide on whether to grant India access to nuclear fuel and technology.

The NSG’s plenary session is expected to discuss the possibility of granting India an exemption from its restrictive export rules. India is standing by its “excellent non-proliferation record” and will seek to allay fears or doubts that the NSG might have about having nuclear commerce with it.
