IAF deploys personnel for August 20 strike by AAINew Delhi, Aug 19 : The Indian Air Force (IAF) has deployed 250 skilled personnel to maintain safety and fire services at 21 airfields across the country in the wake of strike call by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) on Wednesday from 7A. M. to 7P. M.

The personnels have been deployed at short notice by the IAF.

Earlier also the IAF had extended such help a couple of times at very short notices for the smooth functioning of civil air travels.

Two Maoists killed during encounter

JharkhandHazaribagh (Jharkhand), Aug 19 : Two Maoists were killed in an encounter with police in Hazaribagh’s Batuka forests.

The incident occurred before the beginning of a 24-hour Jharkhand shutdown called by naxalites today.

"While one of the bodies of a Maoist was recovered, the other was taken away by the Maoists after the encounter late last night,” a police spokesperson said.

“Maoist zonal commander Krishna Yadav was leading his cadres in exchange of gunfire with security men during raids in the forests, ahead of the shutdown,” he added.

Foreign Secretary Menon leaves for Vienna for NSG meeting

Foreign Secretary Shivshankar MenonNew Delhi, Aug 19 : Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon will leave for Vienna today to attend the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) meeting.

Menon will lead a high-level team at a formal meeting with the NSG troika of Germany, South Africa and Hungary. The team includes Prime Minister’s Special Envoy Shyam Saran, Department of Atomic Energy (DAE)’s RB Grover and DB Venkatesh Varma from the Indian mission in Geneva.
