J and K Govt. asks CRPF to punish those involved in civilian''s killingNew Delhi, Mar 19 : The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Thursday directed the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) to hand over their men who were involved in the killing a civilian mistaking him to be a militant.

The government has asked the police to register a case of murder against all those involved in the incident.

Earlier in the day, the CRPF had suspended one Assistant Commandant and three personnel in connection with the incident.

Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee escapes unhurt in accidentKolkata, March 19 : West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee''s escaped unhurt in an accident on Thursday after the police pushed a person who drove his two-wheeler into Bhattacharjee''s convoy.

Bhattacharjee was heading towards the state secretariat from his 59A Palm Avenue residence in the southern part of Kolkata.

The person is being interrogated at the Park Street police station. His motorbike has also been seized.

The police has ruled out the possibility of an attack on the Chief Minister.

Pilibhit administration declares Varun Gandhi guiltyPilibhit, Mar 19 : The sub-divisional magistrate of Pilibhit, has declared BJP MP Varun Gandhi guilty of distributing money among people in Bisalpur village.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate M. A. Akhtar said that Gandhi had extended financial assistance to at least two persons on March 4.

Akhtar said he took statements from the two people to prove his charge.

He said Gandhi had given Rs. 10,000 to the relative of a vendor who was killed a few days ago. Another amount of Rs. 5,000 was distributed to others.

Self-help groups empower Jharkhand rural womenGumla (Jharkhand), Mar 19 : Women in the Gumla block of Jharkhand have joined self-help groups that make detergents and phenols to improve living conditions.

These women are being trained under the Swarnajayanti Gramin Swarozgar Yojana (SGSY), a government scheme.

Banks provide these self-help groups money, which is used as capital and subsidy for starting the business. Initially the district administration gave them 25,000 rupees and then raised it to 2,50,000 rupees with a subsidy of 1,15,000 rupees.
